Canadian Equipment Industry Training Committee (CEITC) About CEITC A dizzying change of pace marks the 1990s as computer technology becomes integral to every part of life. It's changing the Canadian Equipment Industry too, creating more complex demands on employees as the industry continues to earn and retain its hard-won reputation of unequalled service for the products it sells. Origins and Objectives The Canadian Equipment Industry Training Committee (CEITC) was formed to identify training/human resource issues in the equipment industry and to devise actions to address them. Its overall objective is to attract, recruit and maintain a competitive work force in the heavy, medium and light equipment industry. The creation of CEITC was initiated by the Canadian Association of Equipment Distributors (CAED), which realized that the equipment industry faced a critical shortage of qualified service and parts technicians and decided to address this nation-wide human resource issue. The Committee is sponsored by CAED and Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) on a project basis. As the industry takes in over 1000 firms with 15,000 employees selling and servicing heavy, medium and light equipment within the manufacturing, construction, mining, forestry, oil and gas sectors, a work force shortage cannot be ignored. Companies must find bright, capable new workers in occupations such as service technician, sales representative, parts and administration personnel and management. Structure The committee members represent all facets of the industry, from both labour and management ranks as well as representatives from educational institutions, HRDC and CAED also provide their specific expertise, as does a Project Manager. Its brief history already includes a number of accomplishments, all relevant to its key activities:
