Careers in the Canadian Equipment Industry
Parts Person Job Profile
In this job you are much more than a sales clerk. Increasing pressure
to stay competitive leads equipment customers to expect prompt,
efficient, often computerized attention to their demands. As a parts
management person, you must be completely familiar with your company's
equipment, and comfortable with computer inventory. You are able
to
evaluate your customer's needs and demonstrate the initiative, clear
thinking and social skills to produce a win-win solution for your
employer and your customer.
As customers economize by keeping equipment running longer, your
ongoing role as their link with an important supplier gives you
a key job in your company. You will have the satisfaction of being
part of its "window on the world," constantly challenged to uphold
its reputation by providing the best possible service.
A large firm may offer training and knowledge upgrading programs;
you might spend your whole career with one company. Parts person
certification is also available through community colleges across
Canada as part of an apprenticeship arrangement.
